Mariagnes O’Neill Brown, 93, of South Scranton, died on Friday at home. She was the widow of Robert F. Brown, who died in 2004. She was born on Jan. 27, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Frances O’Neill.

A graduate of Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, she also earned a master’s degree from Marywood College. She was an educator at Bishop Klonowski High School and West Scranton Intermediate School. A three-term member of the Scranton School Board, she was involved in many volunteer activities, including the Voluntary Action Center, the Lackawanna County Bureau of Children’s Services and Meals on Wheels. In 2010, she was awarded the Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service.

Surviving are daughters, Betsey Moylan, Suzanne Conaboy, Kathryn Snyder, Patricia Diehl and Victoria Lynch; and sons, Andrew, Robert, Michael and William Brown; as well as 27 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne Scanlan; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Walsh and Sister M. Faith Brown, I.H.M.; granddaughters, Meghann and Patricia Conaboy; son-in-law, Brian Moylan; and daughter-in-law, Meg Cullen Brown.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 300 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, celebrated by the Rev. Bernard McIlhenny. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Peter’s Cathedral. Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.
