Mary Ellen Lydon, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Mary Ellen Lydon, 94, of South Scranton, died Saturday at Scranton Healthcare Center after an illness. Born in Minooka, she was the daughter of the late Michael P. and Mary Ellen Niland Lydon. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church until its closing and later St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in South Scranton.

A 1949 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, she worked for Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Mary Ellen loved playing bingo, traveling to Atlantic City, and betting on the horses.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Therese Granahan, who cared for her.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice McKeel, and Ann Carrescia, and a brother, Thomas Lydon.

While at Scranton Healthcare Center, she would frequently tell visitors and residents that she owned the facility. On behalf of ownership, therefore, we would like to thank the staff for their excellent care.

Friends and family may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, Inc., 1900 Pittston Avenue.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., celebrated by Rev.
