Josephine Elizabeth Gloria Capozucca Schiappa, 95, of Scranton, died Tuesday morning at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Taylor. Born April 28, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Armando and Nancy Maroni Capozucca. After moving to Northeastern Pennsylvania, she met the love of her life, Aniello Schiappa, who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2005.
Josephine initially worked in the garment industry and later in life as a certified nursing assistant in a local nursing home. Her life's vocation was raising her two children, Nancy and Jerry, who describe Josephine as the best mother any child could ever have. She was a rock for the family, was extraordinarily strong and will be dearly missed.
The family extends its gratitude to Dr. Barry Minora and his staff, along with the staff of Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center who provided excellent and compassionate care to Josephine.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Schiappa; and son, Gerald "Jerry" Schiappa and wife, Teresa Osborne, all of Scranton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Valentino Capozucca.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, Scranton.
