James R. Joyce Jr.

James R. Joyce Jr., Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

James R. Joyce Jr., 81, of Scranton, died Sunday morning at home. His wife of 59 years is the former Carol DelGuercio. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Helen Jakobowski and James R. Joyce, and his second wife, the late Mary Joyce.

He attended Scranton schools and was later employed as a welder for the Anthracite Bridge Co., for 15 years. Prior to retirement, he worked for many years in the maintenance department of the Scranton School District. He was a member of the Ironworkers Union, as well as the AntiquemAutomobile Club of America.

Jimmy took great pride in his family, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His and Carol's home was always open to their loved ones, and he was always willing to lend his beloved white '62 Ford Galaxie for special family events. He was a big fan of Westerns on TV, as well as oldies music — he had the radio playing his favorites in his home and garage at all times. As an avid hunter, Jimmy loved the outdoors and being in nature. He also enjoyed model trains and displaying his Lionel train sets during the holidays. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Also surviving are three daughters, Helena Swarts and husband, Bob, Olyphant; Christine Joyce and Michelle LaBar, both of Scranton; a son, James R. Joyce III and wife, Marion, Scranton; five grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Bielavitz and husband, Tom, Portland, Ore.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Saturday, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave. To leave online condolences, please visit the funeral home website.
